The Hampshire Dormouse Group works with landowners to create, improve and manage optimum habitat for the hazel dormouse.
Hazel dormice prefer managed woodlands and native hedgerows – both key habitats for a host of other species of mammals, invertebrates, birds, plants and fungi as well as valuable aspects of the Hampshire landscape.
The Group helps landowners with known dormouse populations, or near to known populations, to manage these habitats, through the provision of advice; directing landowners to sources of funding and further advice; and where possible, helping to carry out beneficial practical woodland management, such as coppicing.
If you are a landowner or member of the public who is interested in habitat management, please contact us to request further information. We look forward to hearing from you.
