Would you like to be involved in dormouse conservation in Hampshire?
Would you like to gain experience of a new survey methodology, using footpring tunnels?
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight County Dormouse Survey needs your help!
We have developed a systematic survey of the two Counties, using footprint tunnels in hedgerows, which do not require a dormouse licence to check for dormouse presence. 20 footprint tunnels will need to be in place for up to 10 weeks and checked every 2 weeks (6 visits), or until dormouse presence is confirmed. All equipment will be provided. We will follow the National Dormouse Footprint Tunnel survey methodology as outlined in the link below.
PTES (Peoples Trust for Endangered Species)
We need volunteers to take part who have hedgerows to survey and landowner permissions in place. Take a look at our maps at the bottom of this page to see known records and gaps in areas of the County near you that we are particularly interested in surveying.
We also have some landowners with hedges ready to survey. Please get in touch if you are interested and we can pair you with a hedgerow near you!
