Hampshire and Isle of Wight County Dormouse Survey

Would you like to be involved in dormouse conservation in Hampshire?

Would you like to be involved in a pioneering County survey, by looking at your local patch?

Would you like to gain experience of a new survey methodology, using footprint tunnels?

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight County Dormouse Survey needs your help!

We have developed a systematic survey of the two Counties, using footprint tunnels, which do not require a dormouse licence to check for dormouse presence. Footprint tunnels need to be in place for up to 10weeks, or until dormouse presence is confirmed. This technique gives a 97% chance of detecting dormice if they are present.

Please see presentation document for a summary of the project.

If you are interested in volunteering for the project, by surveying a 4km2 square local to you, then please do get in touch, and we can put you in contact with one of our regional coordinators who can set you up with a survey pack, and check that necessary permissions are in place. Please email hantsdormousesurvey@gmail.com.
